For a great many people, this week – the last week in November – is, bar none, the worst week of the year. Colloquially called “hell week” or "dead week" in many post-secondary schools, this is the last week of regular classes in the Autumn semester; final assignments, presentations, and examinations are due now. All of them. Every single high-weighting, do-or-die essay and test must be completed within the next five days. For many students across the country, this is the most stressful time of the year, and it can be truly difficult to deal with.

Coping With Stress at School

Unfortunately, a lot of the methods commonly used by students to cope with this stressful time of year cause more problems than they solve. Pulling an all-nighter, for example, can be seriously detrimental not only to the health of the individual, but to their ability to recall and process information during their exams. It can be surprisingly easy to fall into bad habits when you’re on edge; stress eating, for example, is a natural result of the way the body deals with prolonged periods of stress. This last week before exams start – when every final assignment is due for completion, and every presentation needs to be finished before its end – is definitely a prolonged period of stress.

Achieving success during this time is far from easy, and it becomes even more difficult with  For most people, it isn’t enough to just want to stop stress-related habits; breaking free usually means changing the way we think, which is far from easy. Unfortunately, stress is not a good motivator for change.

Maximize Your Time

Part of the reason that so many students feel like they have to skip classes, cut down on sleep, or avoid taking the time to prepare a proper meal, is the need to get the most out of the time they have left before their deadlines. Generally speaking, a student is a lot less likely to indulge bad habits if they feel like they're getting a good return on the time spent doing their schoolwork. A quiet, focused study session can do wonders for confidence and retention.

This is where the eSmartr sleeve can be an effective help for students in any field; as a wearable, safe, and drug-free means of enhancing certain cognitive functions, it serves as a powerful complement to the learning process. The Cognitive Boost Technology embedded in each sleeve works to improve the wearer’s focus, clarity, and calm – all of which are extremely important to any student. When you get the most out of the time you devote to your studying, you may also feel like it’s okay to take a break when you need one.
